Getting up toward Raleigh there’s some decent trails and San Lee park in Sanford. Pisgah will be your best destination around asheville and brevard but that’s a solid 6 hours or so. Trianglemtb.com lists a lot the central nc trails, you may want to pop on the forums and ask if anyone knows of good spots that direction.
